Nazareth is an inclusive community of inspired learners, educators, and changemakers who for nearly 100 years have been driven by a bold commitment to action, empathy, equity, and leading innovation for the common good.
Impact experiences are at the heart of a Nazareth education, preparing each student to discover within themselves the potential to cultivate positive change in their life's work, in any career field, and in a world that is constantly evolving and infinitely interconnected.
Our broad academic offerings present a range of study options typical of big universities, yet achieved in our supportive campus culture. Nearly 2,100 undergrad and 600 graduate students enroll in degree and certificate programs and engage in collaborative, transformative learning experiences, preparing them for the professions and society of today and tomorrow.
In a learning community that purposefully integrates liberal arts and professional programs, Nazareth graduates launch lifetimes of change making leadership in communities and workplaces near and far.

						From The School

Under the guidance of faculty, students frequently find themselves working with peers (including students from other disciplines) in clinical and lab settings, and on projects and productions. As one student recently mentioned: "There's a community feeling on campus and the surrounding area of Rochester is welcoming to students. The school offers variety and diversity and I believe the school is dedicated to their students' wholeness, health, and overall well being. It's not ALL about your academic success but your overall growth along with personal maturity and life preparation. The advisors are truly dedicated to ensuring you are on the right path and advise instead of tell."
Professors and advisors encourage students to link their studies with practical experiences, including study abroad, service-learning, research, and internships.
Students can support or discover their varied interests through involvement in over 50 clubs and organizations ranging from academic clubs, athletics, culture and entertainment, and interfaith groups. It's common for a math major to be a member of the dance team, a physical therapy major to minor in music, or a biochemistry major to minor in legal studies.

						What students say:

"I love my peers," raves one sophomore. "Inside and outside my classes they have always been kind and helpful." Others enthuse that the students at Naz are "kind-hearted, approachable, [and] welcoming." Many students point out that the population is largelyjust over 70%-female and some note that groups can feel "segmented" or "cliquey." However, others are quick to point out that everyone is "always wanting to let anyone and everyone know how they are accepted and welcome here."
Student bonds are formed through informal campus events and during classes themselves. One student describes a "broad mix of dance, theater, music, athletes, science, business, and sporty students." One transfer student enjoys that professors foster a close-knit campus community during class, as well: "The professors encourage us to talk in small groups, one-on-one, or to the whole class about ourselves, our worries, our strengths, and our goals. I think this helps us all support each other in our endeavors."

							From the School

A Nazareth education creates impact experiences that build perspectives, knowledge, confidence, and connections that directly apply to real-world possibilities.
Supported by an enduring foundation in the liberal arts, impact experiences tap into each student's potential, making connections to unique strengths, skills, and values that will set them up for success not just in their first job, but in their life's work.
Options can be customized for individual goals, and each student is supported in the pursuit of impact experiences by Nazareth's Center for Life's Work, an industry leader in innovative and effective career preparation.
From internships, clinical placements, student teaching, research and creative projects, and performance to community engagement, service learning, and study abroad, Nazareth students have multiple impact experiences during their time in college.
After they graduate, the Center is a lifelong resource for continued growth, adapting to workforce changes, and flourishing in their careers, their communities, and in life.
							What students say
Nazareth University's four academic colleges are celebrated for their small class sizes and emphasis on social justice. With a low average class size and student to teacher ratio, "everyone can actually work together and hold intellectual conversation that pushes everyone forward." It helps that "the super supportive and open staff makes it easy to communicate and makes you feel free to express yourself entirely." In addition to classes that prioritize dialogue over traditional lectures, education at Nazareth occurs through "handson learning and asking lots of questions based off of knowledge that we are collecting on our own as students." One student speaks of creating workshops for local organizations, writing movie reviews, and attending guest lectures for course credit. Another student appreciates feeling like a "person rather than just a number. It is easier to have one-on-one time with peers and professors to get the help I may need." Academic clubs and organizations also aid in this: "I love the amount of help we can receive here."
In line with "preparing students for lives of meaning and purpose," students feel "the school has a commitment to supporting social justice issues and provides many opportunities for students to get real world experiences." T wo popular programs are Partners for Serving and Partners for Learning, where students "go out and volunteer at different organizations or schools in the community. This strengthens community ties while also giving students experience outside."

						What students say:

Affectionately known as "Naz," Nazareth offers students a thriving community centered around sports and service. Students love to attend the NCAA Division III soccer and basketball games, along with watching or participating in JV and intramural sports. Students rave about on-campus yoga and Zumba, as well as nearby golf courses. To further support students' emotional well-being, Naz offers Wellness Wednesday and Relaxation Night: "These events help the students grab something to eat and keep them relaxed during stressful times."
Service also factors prominently in students' extracurricular activities. "Helping Hands Club is a volunteer club that meets bi-weekly to participate in a service-based project, such as making dog toys for a local pet shelter or making cards for seniors in a nearby residential home," explains one student. Students also love to enjoy the beauty of their brick, neogothic campus, explore nearby Rochester, and stroll along the Erie Canal. "When the weather is nice, there are a lot of very pretty parts of campus to breathe fresh air and study or hang out with friends."

						Admissions
						From the School:

Admission is based primarily on academic achievement. Nazareth seeks students with a high level of competency and recommends applicants complete a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum in high school that includes English, a foreign language, math, science, and social studies. Successful completion of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses are looked upon favorably, and co-curricular activities are also considered.
Nazareth offers Early Decision (due November 15) and Regular Decision (due February 1) application options. Apply to Nazareth using the Common Application or the Nazareth FastApp. An essay, official high school transcript, and letter(s) of recommendation are required.
Test scores (SAT, ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ) are not required, but are optional for all majors except nursing. Approximately 50% of applicants submit scores. An audition or portfolio review is required for applications to art, dance, music, and theatre programs: naz.edu/auditions. A campus visit is highly recommended: naz.edu/visit
International students should consult the website for application guidelines: naz.edu/ international

								Location

Nazareth is situated on 150 acres in the town of Pittsford, seven miles from Rochester, New York state's fourth largest city. Classic and modern buildings are interspersed amongst expansive lawns, shady woodland groves, and landscaped gardens. Cultural, co-curricular, and entertainment opportunities include: music, dance, and theatrical presentations at the Nazareth College Arts Center and Glazer Music Performance Center, 25 Golden Flyer Division III athletic teams, 50+ clubs and organizations representing students' academic, cultural, interfaith, and athletic interests, and presentations from national and international scholars and performers. The Golisano Training Center, new in 2019, is a 120,000-square-foot athletic training and fitness space that includes an indoor track and turf field, multi-use courts, fitness center, and recreation facilities.

								Campus Facilities & Equipment

With its focus on collaborative, hands-on learning, Nazareth College has invested more than $50 million in creating enhanced learning and research spaces for all areas of study, including Peckham Hall Integrated Center for Math and Sciences, York Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute, renovated nursing labs and learning spaces, Glazer Music Performance Center, and Golisano Training Center.

								Off-Campus Opportunities

Nazareth's innovative SPARK program provides a value of up to $4,000 per student (in a grant plus a tuition waiver for summer experiences) to make research, internships, and study abroad possible.
